Research Engineer (Communication Systems) - Torrance, CA

Seeking a Research Engineer (Communication Systems) with expertise in military electronics and avionics systems to join our growing Electro-Optics Systems Department. 

Responsibilities: The Engineer will be responsible for performing hands-on end-to-end communication system prototyping including design, assembly, integration, and test, particularly in the area of implementation of wireless network and software-defined radio. The tasks will include system architecture development, simulation, and troubleshooting in accordance with project team objectives, requirements, and schedules. This is a “hands-on” engineering position; candidates with heavy supervisory experience need not apply.  This engineer, capable of rapid prototyping should be experienced with off-the-shelf hardware/software, as well as, embedded processing solutions to perform component and development board/kit selection, implementation, testing, validation, and troubleshooting. He/she should be familiar with programming in MATLAB/Simulink. Specific emphasis on high bandwidth wireless network, MIMO, modulation techniques, MANET, DSP, interface standards, RF and mixed-signal design knowledge for streaming video– a plus. Candidates with experiences in network algorithm development and system engineering are encouraged to apply.

  • Execute rapid prototyping including architecture design, development, and implementation of wireless communication hardware and software solutions, including design, simulation, implementation, integration, and test of components, subsystems, and systems.

  • Interact with internal technical supporting team, technology vendors, and service providers in selecting, evaluating, and/or fabricating system components.

  • Provide technical write-ups and documentations.

Requirements:

  • MS Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Science, plus 3 years of hands-on communication system development and implementation experience.

  • At least 3 years of experience in wireless communication system development and implementation.

  • Must be able to design, simulate and prototype high-speed wireless communication systems

  • Experience with rapid prototyping and off-the-shelf hardware/software, embedded processing solutions to perform component and development board/kit selection, implementation, testing, validation, and troubleshooting.

  • Familiar with programming in MATLAB/Simulink.

  • Experience/ emphasis on high bandwidth wireless network, MIMO, modulation techniques, MANET, DSP, interface standards, RF and mixed-signal design knowledge for streaming video– a plus.

  • Candidates with experiences in network algorithm development and system engineering are encouraged to apply.

  • Must be able to successfully lead and contribute to multiple programs simultaneously, achieving required results on time and on budget

  • Ability to present technical concepts and designs to Senior Management and customers.

  • Must have excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills.

  • Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance or have an active Secret Security Clearance
