Systems Safety Engineer - Torrance, CA

Seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to act as a safety subject matter expert for military avionics processor systems, radio frequency sensor systems, control systems, and/or other innovative technological solutions.  U.S. citizenship is required to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility will be as the Safety Engineer for avionics and other embedded product lines.

  • Secondary responsibility will be as an Avionics Systems Engineer.

  • Responsible for performing safety analyses, including PSSA/SSA, FHA, FMECA, FTA, etc. and use these analyses to influence the architectures and designs of the systems under consideration.

  • Review the engineering team's outputs (e.g. requirements, procedures, ECOs, etc.) with a critical eye toward safety impacts

  • Become the company’s focal for safety-critical designs

  • Provide support to the lead Systems Engineer with requirements management and verification

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or other related engineering field required. Master’s degree strongly preferred.

  • 3+ years of recent experience in safety-critical design in a field such as space, nuclear, Class 3 medical device design or commercial aviation (Highly Desired)

  • Experience with DO-178 and DO-254 is a plus; successful FAA STC or TSO certification (preferred)

  • Experience with ARP4761 or ARP4754 Safety Assessments for hardware or software (preferred)

  • Experience with ITEM Software (preferred)

  • Efficiently multi-task and commit to working under deadlines

  • U.S. citizenship required to obtain security clearance
