Seeking a Research Scientist to support our Emerging Technologies group in the development of Advanced Sensor Systems. Our current project portfolio includes a wide range of ever-changing technologies, including novel optical metrology to aid in the production of stealth aircraft, autonomous mass spectrometry system for atmospheric monitoring, non-lethal weapon technologies, and future millimeter-wave radar systems to aid in aircraft launch/recovery operations aboard aircraft carriers. This position is for a skillful experimentalist who will be responsible for the development and fabrication of new, innovative devices and systems to meet the unique needs of defense and commercial applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for product development, technical writing, interactive customer presentations, and working with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to continually advance R&D toward viable products.
Identify and implement simple yet innovative ways to solve complex technical problems
Perform hands-on laboratory work to rapidly design and build prototypes to assess and demonstrate technical feasibility
Develop and execute strategies to mature prototype solutions toward viable products
Manage technical and programmatic progress on multiple projects, including writing technical reports and presentations in support of development for government customers
Conceive of novel solutions to customer requirements and help write winning proposals for strategic government grant opportunities
Master's or PhD in Physics or Electrical Engineering
5+ years of hands-on experience in development of advanced technologies and instrumentation, with thorough fundamental understanding of physical processes and materials.
Hands-on experience with optics, RF and remote sensors.
Experience with transition of R&D to production is a strong plus
Creativity, strong problem-solving and analytical skills, excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills are essential
Proficiency in software modeling, and simulation tools, such as COMSOL, MATLAB, etc., is a strong plus
Comfortable working in a very dynamic R&D setting with a number of PhD level engineers and scientists developing novel, impactful technology solutions
US Citizenship is required to obtain security clearance
