Software QA Engineer - Torrance, CA

The Software Quality Assurance Engineer (SQAE) will be responsible for a wide range of responsibilities including participation in the design lifecycle of software, design reviews, test witnessing, software problem reporting and audits. The SQAE interacts and works with the software engineering team to ensure compliance to contractual requirements and standards. The SQAE supports compliance to AS9100D, CMMI for Development Maturity Level 3, DO-178 and DO-254 (firmware).

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in software design process (Agile and Spiral models) making recommendations for product changes and improvements.

  • Generate program specific Software Quality Assurance plans, checklists, and reports.

  • Support the development and improvement of software quality processes in support of AS9100D, CMMI and DO-178 and DO-254.

  • Review program specific software related documentation such as Software Development Plan, Software Requirements Specifications, Software Design Documents, test plans, procedures, etc.

  • Validate functional requirements in peer reviews of software code using IBM DOORs and Rational Team Concert (RTC).

  • Participate in software code peer reviews.

  • Witness software testing. Write Software QA test reports related to qualification testing.

  • Manage software problem reporting system, including verification of software solutions to closure.

  • Participate in Functional Configuration Audit (FCA), Stages of Involvement (SOI) and compliance audits for AS9100C, CMMI, DO-178, and DO-254 (firmware).

  • System administrator for software configuration tool in RTC.

  • Manage software build and baseline release of software in RTC.

  • Make presentations to customer(s) on software quality assurance.

  • Collect, manage and update SQA metrics.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS, CIS, MIS, Mathematics, or Engineering. Master’s preferred

  • 7+ years of Software Quality Assurance or related experience

  • Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes

  • Experience working with MMI- Maturity level 3 for Development

  • ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 Quality Management Systems, ISO AS9115 Quality Management Systems – Deliverable Software, DO-178 - Software Considerations for Airborne Systems, and DO-254 – Hardware Considerations for Airborne (firmware)

  • Administrator or user experience using IBM products Rational Team Concert (RTC) and DOORs

  • Understanding of coding languages

  • Strong analytical ability

  • Ability to utilize multiple word-processing and database applications including MS Office applications Word, Excel, Power Point, as well as Adobe Acrobat, etc.

  • US Citizen/Green Card holder required

Nice to Have/Not Required:

  • Experience certifying systems to DO-178/254 is a plus

  • Experience working with system safety requirements is a plus

  • Familiarity with Unix or Linux based systems is a plus
