Seeking a Director of Emerging Technologies who can lead a team of scientists & engineers specializing in the development and production of advanced sensor solutions for ground and airborne applications for our Photonics division. Responsibilities: The Director will work in a fast-paced R&D setting with a focus on technology transition of novel solutions for the DOD, DOE, NASA, and other federal agencies. The Director will have a proven track record of leadership and “hands-on” technical contributions to complex and diverse R&D programs with a focus on transitioning mature technologies to products.
They will be providing technical guidance and direction to a team of scientists and helping troubleshoot and come up with solutions for phase 1-4 SBIR projects. This person will be reviewing a lot of different types of proposals and managing a team of 6-7 scientists, so they must have a strong academic background to manage these PHD personalities.
The candidate will have strong technical and organizational skills, providing clear assignments and expectations to his or her team of 5-10 scientists and engineers as well as conducting transparent and diligent management of programs, personnel, and customers. The candidate will have excellent technical writing skills to support and prepare winning proposals and whitepapers. They will have strong customer interface and presentation skills to support regular communication with government customers and internal support organizations.
Contribute hands-on technical expertise and manage technical talent in the pursuit of pioneering development &technology maturation in growth areas including LIDAR 's (LADAR ), EO/IR imaging, and RF engineering.
Interact with scientists, engineers, and production staff to develop innovative and integrative solutions and create winning proposals to address customer requirements.
Provide program planning leadership consistent with technical specifications and performance requirements (as described in the SOW or other documentation)
Perform financial management for the group, including revenue/budget and P&L forecasting and execution.
PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics with 8+ years of experience, or MS with 10+ years of experience
3+ years of experience in product development role (non-R&D). Prefer experience in executing multiple programs with less than 2 year period of performance
Proven leadership experience – leading a team of engineers
Ability to maintain and effectively plan for revenue growth, track program budgets, and set and maintain project schedules. They will need to be comfortable having financial reporting responsibilities.
Excellent technical writing skills
Must be able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English as the primary technical interface with customers, vendors, sub-contractors and non-technical persons
