Field Applications Engineer - Torrance, CA

Responsibilities: Will provide technical support to new & existing military customers; including system demonstrations, group training and system troubleshooting.   The engineer will work in the Photonics Systems Division, primarily in support of the division’s growing Micro Weather Sensor (MWS) product line as well as expanding sensor systems portfolio. In conjunction with our sales team, the engineer will gather user technical requirements and feedback, and work with the division’s engineering team to refine the current product line and help shape the expanding product portfolio. This individual will have excellent technical communication skills and a positive approach to working in an interdisciplinary environment with military professionals as well as scientists and engineers. 

  • Conduct onsite demonstrations of sensor systems to military end users in support of development and implementation for specific customer applications

  • Provide both remote and onsite technical support to customers, to include analysis of user sensor data, troubleshooting discrete electronic sensors, and preparing technical reports based on analysis and resolution

  • Provide on-site training to military end-users in both classroom and field settings; create informative training manuals and engaging courses for users

  • Assist business development staff in assessing applications to meet customer needs and preparing product specifications and customer implementation plans

  • Embody customers’ interests, applications, and needs at internal technical meetings to influence growth and expansion of sensor products 

Required:

  • AA degree in a technical field (required); Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (preferred).

  • 5+ years in technical development and/or systems maintenance capacity (fixing military equipment)

  • Demonstrated experience working hand-in-hand with customers in a technical capacity

  • Experience in weather monitoring and/or small, portable sensor systems is a plus

  • Experience in sales or customers relations, especially with the military, is a plus

  • Former military service required

  • Demonstrates strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Understands technical concepts across a range of fields (mechanical, electrical, and production) in order to identify and support issue resolution

  • Must be team-oriented and demonstrate a high level of professionalism and customer service

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast-paced, and challenging environment with minimal supervision

  • Strong experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.
